Two Days of Forging Axes in Under 4 Minutes
This Timelapse shows two days of forging. It gives you a look at how we set up for a day of making axes and it gives a good sense of the flow of each heat; the movement between the forge, power hammers, hydraulic presses, and the shear. It also shows how we change the dies and tooling on the machines when we switch to a new heat, as well as how many steps we take every day!
I lead the forging while Zac assists. Trading off tasks enables me to train him constantly while always looking for ways to improve efficiency without sacrificing quality.

Grain orientation is an age old debate amongst axe users. While parallel, or straight grained tool handles are proven to be stronger it does not necessarily mean that perpendicular grained handles are not strong enough to be viable users. The strength of an axe handle is very subjective and depends on a plethora of factors that aren't related to grain orientation. After testing, we feel confide...

I heard from Carl Marwoski that it took him awhile to fully break in his builder pros as well. I think he said a month or two. I placed my order for my own pair of builder pros and I'm so excited I'm digesting all the content to both A: feed the hype machine and B: learn all I can with maintenence, breaking in and even unboxing experience! Love the honesty in the video! Keep up the great work

How do you feel about Osage orange in comparison to hickory? I know it's not nearly as cost-effective, but I have some Osage orange from some woods I cleared out anyway. I'm limbing a bunch of cedars with about 100 1-4in diameter limbs off the trunks in the first ~8 feet so I can foster the orchard grass taking hold under them and I figured out that it's way more efficient to do a lot of it with my 13in, Vaughan SH2 22oz carpenter's half-hatchet than it was with any size of chainsaw. I don't think I've ever even sharpened that thing and I swear I can cut (not bash or break, cleanly cut) through limbs close to 2in thick in single swings. My only wish is for a handle about twice as long. I can literally swing that little 22oz head all day long, which is not something I could ever dream of doing with any of the beefy monsters of "small axes" at any of the stores in my area. If I had a handle about twice as long, I'd barely need a chainsaw at all and it would be physically easy.

What is small world! A guy in Philly (me) asks the Google Assistant "why do you turn an axe upside down and hit it when putting on an axe blade?" (because I know nothing of axes 😅), and it gives me a video of a guy in Tennessee wearing a t-shirt from Philly! I mean, really? 🤣 Seriously though, if I needed an axe I'd definitely be buying one from you! Looks like some serious good work right there. Take care, -E

The reason a haft can warp if stored leaning against a wall is not the weight; it's the wood drawing moisture up into itself from the ground. Hang up them axes when storing 'em!

DUDE!!! I HAVE A WETHERBY!!! 1838, BUFFALO NEW YORK! The scripting is partially unreadable and ive been trying to identify it since i was 16. I thought for sure it has a walnut handle set. Its real dark brown but o suppose maple from that era could fade. It cuts like brand new. The only problem is two chips on the left side. I cant really decide if i want to sharpen it. I am going to clean it up though. That knife is one of my most prized possesions. An old frind gave it to me when i was 14 before he passed a couple years later. Im 32 now. And have built a great many archery equipment with it. Thats so cool, i always really wanted to know.
